Current Law

Alaska Stat. ยง 08.32.125 โ€“ Last renewed in 2024

Authorizes licensed dental hygienists in Alaska with at least 4,000 hours of clinical experience to obtain an advanced practice permit. This permit allows them to provide a range of preventive and therapeutic dental services, including oral cancer screenings, without dentist supervision. These services can be delivered to underserved populations such as residents of senior centers, healthcare facilities, schools, correctional facilities, and dental health professional shortage areas. The law enhances access to oral health care, including cancer prevention, for vulnerable and isolated groups.
